Customer Story
Lufthansa Cargo has been working with Lobster since 2018. By introducing Lobster Data Platform, the company consolidated communication, tracking and telematics data into a single view for its door-to-door perishable service.
Since working with Lobster, Lufthansa Cargo AG was able to optimise a range of KPIs.
tonnes of freight/week tracked transparently
hours of manual effort saved every day
automation of 300-400 daily emails
minutes for full shipment overview
Before Lobster, Lufthansa Cargo’s To Door product relied on manual communication and disconnected systems, making it hard to maintain quality and transparency.
Two staff spent 2–3 hours sorting 300–400 emails per shift and chasing information instead of managing exceptions or planning ahead.
Standard tracking only covered the flight, not the last-mile trucking leg, leaving customers without visibility for telematics data.
Separate systems and providers for flight data, trucking telematics and operational statuses, with no consolidated view.

“Thanks to Lobster and the 2Door concept, we were able to create transparency and reliability throughout the entire cold chain. Real-time temperature data enables proactive action, improves product quality, and strengthens our customers’ trust.”

With Lobster, Lufthansa Cargo now has a structured, real-time view of all To Door shipments and has significantly reduced manual coordination work.
Email traffic per shipment has been cut from up to 25 individual messages to a single status email with link for all parties.
Instead of spending 2–3 hours per shift on email sorting, staff now obtain a full operational overview in a few minutes via the Lobster dashboard.
Customers see live truck position and ETA, helping them schedule warehouse staff and onward distribution more reliably.
A scalable digital To Door platform that unifies air and road data and can be extended with further features such as document upload and advanced analytics.
Lufthansa Cargo and Lobster jointly designed a platform to bundle all relevant information for perishable transports and reduce coordination effort.
Step 1
Conducted internal workshops and process mapping to identify pain points, milestones and required data sources across air and road transport. Together with Lobster, Lufthansa Cargo designed a central platform that aggregates communication and events for all 2Door shipments in Frankfurt. The first pilot project with a high-priority UK customer was completed within four weeks, followed by stabilisation and iterative refinements.
Step 2
Rolled out the platform step by step across additional customers and transport partners, supported by telematics integration. As teams became familiar with the system, they gained greater autonomy in managing data, monitoring shipments and handling daily operations.
Lobster serves as the central integration layer for Lufthansa Cargo’s To Door service, merging flight data with truck telematics into a single real-time timeline and map view. The platform pulls information via APIs from internal systems and external providers, then shares updates through automated push emails – no login required – giving all stakeholders live visibility of each shipment’s status.
How real-time data and automation transform perishable logistics door-to-door.
