External link type
The predefined enumeration External link type (ExternalLinkType) defines (sub)types for typed attributes of the attribute type ‘External link attribute’ (ExternalLinkAttribute). An external link attribute specifies its External link type via the externalLinkType field.
The list can be customised.
A specific configuration type (ExternalLinkTypeConfiguration) is available for the configuration of enumeration values, which only supports the ‘Icon URI’ field (iconUri).
The assigned icon appears on the one hand in the configuration for External links, depending on the External link type selected in the ‘Type’ (type) field.
On the other hand, the assigned icon is also essential for the visualisation of ‘external link attributes’ in an overview for the attribute owner to whom they are assigned.
The links displayed in a column of the overview function as an interactive interface: They receive the click that leads to the ‘resolution’ of a link based on the scheme stored in the configuration for External links.
The External links (background) page contains further details.

The External link type ‘XY-Link’ (XY_LINK) defined in the sample data is referenced as a selection for the Type parameter in the External links configuration shown in the screenshot on the right. Association criteria for the configuration determine whether the ‘resolving’ of an ‘XY link’ (based on the specifications in the ‘Link creation’ tab) is supported in the context of an entity that has an external link attribute of the type ‘XY link’. ►NOTE◄ The Combobox for the Type shows the icon assigned via the Icon URI. |

In an overview for an entity type ‘Training’, the symbol for the External link type ‘XY link’ defined by the Icon URI appears if the corresponding attribute has been added to the training (see Add external link). In the given context, clicking on the icon could open a link like the following and open it in a new browser tab: https://cert.system.org/?partner=MEDIXINC. |
