City
The entries made in city administration facilitate the search of postal codes and places in the different registered addresses.
Whenever one of the fields Place Name or Postal Code is changed during an address entry, a search for possible matches in the list of cities produces results in a dropdown list below respective field. Existing selections for the Country of the address will be considered as search constraint.
When a specific city is selected from the dropdown, values for the fields Country, Postal Code, Place Name, State and State Code are transferred from the list of cities into the data context of the address entry. Existing values in target fields will be overwritten or even cleared, in case of empty fields for a city. This transfer copies data and does not create references, so later changes to a city record will not apply to existing address entries. However, any following change to the fields Place Name or Postal Code of an address will copy the latest data for the selected city into the address.
The automatic look-up and data transfer from the list of cities is compulsory for all address entries and available for all users, as is does not depend on privileges or permissions. In contrast, access control is applicable to the list of cities.
►NOTE◄ The import of location data from the Geonames database using the _data is described as an example for the Batch import.
