Creating company structures
Tutorial: Create company structures
◄ Back to First Steps
Procedures on this page:
In the previous section the user 'jabend' with the role 'Administrator' was created for the company 'Smart Logistics AG'.
Log on to the system with this account to build the 'company structure' in this section!
►NOTE◄ As long as a user account does not provide any alternatives regarding companies or roles, the clearly assigned company and/or role is automatically the company of the session/role of the session.
The following picture shows an overview of the hierarchical structure below the already established company 'Smart Logistics AG':
The company structure is built up step by step from top to bottom by creating additional company accounts, each subordinate to an existing company.
The starting point for this step is the menu item Company account overview:
As shown in the screenshot, the Company account overview with 'Smart Logistics AG' only shows exactly one of the two companies created in the system, while the 'Default Company' does not appear.
This is due to the fact that the login context of the user 'jabend' refers to the company 'Smart Logistics AG' on the one hand and uses the role 'Administrator' on the other hand, according to whose definition the 'owner restrictions' should be observed. In concrete terms, this means that the company account 'Default Company' does not appear in the list because 'Smart Logistics AG' (as the company of the session) cannot access it. It is neither the owner of the 'Default Company' nor recipient of a corresponding company authorization (more about this later!).
Creation of child companies (branches, subsidiaries, etc.)
As a first step to establish a company hierarchy, the English branch of 'Smart Logistics AG' with the name 'SL UK' is created.
The creation of a new company is initiated with the button New in the ribbon of the Company account overview, which opens an empty detail form:
In the field Parent companies, the company 'Smart Logistics' is entered here, since the new company 'SL UK' should be directly subordinated to this company.
►NOTE◄ This assignment does not mean that the company 'Smart Logistics AG' is the owner of 'SL UK'. However, 'Smart Logisitcs AG' is automatically registered as the owner of the new company 'SL UK', because it is the company of the session.
Assign all other characteristics for the company 'SL UK' as shown in the screenshot and then click Save in the ribbon! The new company will appear in the list:
With this information the company structure corresponds to the blue colored status in the following image:
This step must now be repeated for all other companies in the hierarchy. The following example shows the input data for the company 'SL LDN', which is the London branch of 'SL UK':
The company 'SL LDN' is subordinated to the company 'SL UK' by an entry in Parent companies, provided with address data and appears in the overview's list area after clicking Save.
The following image shows the company hierarchy in blue:
Create the remaining companies according to the same scheme!
The assignment for Parent companies can be found in the company structure.
The selection of Company types should correspond to the respective hierarchy level (see examples 'SL UK' and 'SL LDN').
Address data can be freely selected or taken from the list at the beginning of the following section.
