A profile backup is created when you press the Save & backup & close button. You can select these backups on the profile page General Data in tab Backup/Limits and overwrite the current version of your profile. You can also change this default setting (false) in the configuration file ./etc/startup.xml with the following entry. For this setting, a new profile version will be saved for every Save, not just for Save & close.

Backups are not deleted if the profile from which they originate is deleted. So, if you accidentally deleted a profile and created backups before, you can create a new profile and load a backup of the old profile (if you name the new profile exactly like the old one). Note: In the file system you will find the profile backups under ./datawizard/settings/-1.
